RICHMOND, VA — Two people were killed and seven others were injured in a mass shooting in Richmond, according to the Richmond Police Department.
Authorities said officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots late Saturday night in a residential area of the city. Upon arrival, police discovered several victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while seven others were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police officials described the incident as an “active and ongoing investigation” and said detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting. The conditions of the injured victims have not yet been publicly released.
Investigators are canvassing the area for surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses. As of Sunday morning, no arrests had been announced, and authorities have not disclosed whether they believe the shooting was targeted or random.
City leaders expressed condolences to the families affected and urged community members to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.
