Fredericksburg, VA fxbgva.news/— On day 103 of their nearly 2,300-mile cross-country journey, a group of Buddhist monks arrived in Fredericksburg, drawing hundreds of residents despite frigid winter temperatures.
The monks, who began their peace walk in Fort Worth last October, are traveling on foot to Washington, spreading a message of peace and mindfulness along the way. Their stop in Fredericksburg attracted supporters from across the region.
Community members lined the route to welcome the monks as they entered the area, some holding handmade signs and others offering water and words of encouragement.
“It’s inspirational to see someone walk so many miles with such purpose,” said one attendee. Another added, “I wish I had that level of dedication to walk as far as they have.”
Several residents said they gathered along U.S. Route 1 to greet the group as they approached the city. “We wanted to welcome them into the area,” one supporter said. “We handed out water and made signs to show our support.”
Those in attendance described the experience as moving and memorable, calling it a rare opportunity to witness such a journey firsthand.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see something like this come through our community,” one attendee said.
The monks are expected to continue their walk north in the coming days as they make their way toward the nation’s capital.
